Meanwhile, our current batch of students are working hard for their NUS Harmonica Examination 2009, taking Grade 1 - 5. Wish them all the best for their examination. Their result will be posted when we get the result.

FAQ:

Q: What is TJHarmonics (TJH)?
A: TJharmonics is a harmonica ensemble formed in 2003, under the 'Gift of Music' programme and Taman Jurong CC. We open new courses regularly to promote harmonica music and also the gift of music.

Q: Where is that location? How can I reach there?
A: BLK 184 #01-79 Yung Sheng Road, Taman Jurong. It is the place where 'Meet-the-People' sessions are held at, the HDB flats which is opposite S11 foodcourt. Take MRT to Lakeside station. Take bus service no.98, alight at 5th stop.

Q: Can I join if I am older/younger than the age limit?
A: You may join. You can contact us for futher enquiry.

Q: What is the timing for the course.
A: Every Saturday, 7.00 PM to 8.00 PM

Q: How much do I have to pay for the course?
A: Basically, the course is FREE. You just have to buy your harmonica and the coursebook for the lesson.

Q: How many lessons are there in total?
A: This is an on-going course, students will continue their courses at intermediate level, and eventually join the performing group, you do not have to pay additional cost for the lessons, it's still free. :D

Q: What kind of events do TJH perform for.
A: We have regular performances during the 'Meet-the-people' sessions, especially during Chinese New Year, National Day and other festive seasons. We have also performed in Taman Jurong's National Day Celebration and many more.

Q: I do not have music background, can I still join?
A: Sure! This course is catered for young beginners who do not have music background.

We would like to congulate the above students who did well in the Harmonica Examination 2007. TJ Harmonics sent in 17 students and we have a 100% pass. The national passing rate in 90% with around 180 candidates.

Hi everyone~

Sharon is here again....

It has been long since the last time I posted.

Hmm....TJH is already 4 yrs old....

Time passes really fast, 'one blink eye', 4 years gone. All of us have grown up. Like for me, from a tud-tud primary school student, to now,a graduating Sec4 student.

These years were never easy for TJH. We had gone through the ups and downs, and we are now getting better and better, in all different areas.

Actually I'm really proud of us. The efforts we put in, the friendship we have built up among us, the way that we are committed to face challenges together. All these contributed to the succese we have now.

We have a new batch of K2 students coming in this November, which means that we have to do more work. x(
But it will never be good if we have nothing to do! Hahaz.

More events and performances will be coming up.

Hello! It's me again. This week passed to slowly as our school reopened but we are having harmonica again! And some of the kids are joining us today! Hey! I've made a new blog skin. How was that? I spent 6 hours on it and now it was finally done! comment on it at the tag board... The about us section is still waiting for Sharon's short introduction... Many thing's coming up espescially during the June holiday. So reserve some days during the June holiday for TJ!

Today is labour day, all of you must be enjoying some where or at home studying at home for your Mid-year Examination. Oh! It just reminded me that the TJ harmonics' Mid Year is coming~

Hey! Long time never post liao. Since 9 March if I am not wrong. Have Harmonica yesterday and now I am having a sore throat and flu. I am Hwee Ming by the way. I found out that our music stand is in a mess! I must sort out this mess some other day. Maybe during the holiday I think. Our Mid year examination is coming, but everyone seemed to be very relax. I will go for the harmonica still, even durign the Mid year. Harmonica is yx and my oxygen according to the TJ harmonics. Lol! bye!

Hello...Sharon is here once again... =D

The year is going to end soon,Which means that school is going to start soon. x(

Hm....but I can't wait to see our young learners (sorry, I really don't know how to call them) starting their primary school life, meeting new friends (or maybe still hanging out with the same friends), talking about their school lifes...

And since Christmas is around the corner, I'll make a few Christmas wishes. ( Hope Santa will hear/see them =D )

1. Hope that TJH will progress more, and more, and much more!

2. Hope we can have more outdoor performances, so that we can improve ourselves.

3. Hope that our young learners will enjoy their brand new school year, and continue to be with us.

4. Hope that we can have more members.

My examination has finished so i take over the post to post in this blog! Let's talk about the history of th eharmonica today. The information is taken from http://www.hohnerusa.com/ahistory.htm. It go like that...

In 1821, a German clockmaker named Christian Ludwig Buschmann put 15 pitchpipes together and invented what we know today as the harmonica. The tiny instrument may have faded away unnoticed among all the exciting innovations of the 19th century, but Buschmann recognized his invention as “a truly unique musical instrument… With harmonies of six tones, which can be held as long as the player has breath.” He named it the “mundaeoline,”which is German for mouth harp. In time, all of Europe had heard about this delightful hand-held wonder.

After a few decades passed, another clockmaker,Matthias Hohner, purchased one of these handcrafted early instruments and decided to mass produce harmonicas. During that first year, Hohner, his wife and one employee produced 650 harmonicas. He then shipped some of his mouth harps to cousins, who had immigrated to the US, and harmonica demand soared as peddlers, emigrants and soldiers spread the diminutive instrument’s popularity across America. The US quickly became an important market for the emerging company’s musical products.

The instrument's increasing popularity extended even to the White House. During the Lincoln-Douglas debates, when worried friends told President Abraham Lincoln that his opponent was bringing a brass band, Mr. Lincoln reached into his pocket, grinned and said “the harmonica will do it for me!”During that same era, Union and Confederate soldiers carried Hohner Harmonicas into Civil War battles. Many claimed that carrying harmonicas in their breast pockets defected bullets and saved their lives!

TJ Harmonics was formally formed on 18th Oct 2003. It was a 3rd Sat of the month. We could have an annual celebration on the 3rd Sat of Oct every year!
This year's 3rd of Oct happen to be a public holiday (Hari Raya). We could celebrate on 28th Oct 2006 (3rd Anniversary). Please comment.

I'm here to post the last post before my EYE. Ppl, please wish me good luck!

Anyway, I'm here to get some suggestion about TJ Harmonics. I will start off with the ''advance'' group, which most of us (the teens i mean) are in....

Have you thought of learning harmonica(s)? Why yes and why not? If the lessons are free of charge, will you be interested?

Well, I don't seem to have good responds. I've asked ppl around me, including my schoolmates, classmates, friends, and even strangers that i've just met. If the reponds are really that bad, that means got problem.....

So I tried to find what's the problem. It seems that teenagers are not that interested are due to a few (or many) reasons:

1. It dosen't sound attractive to them (at all )
2. The time of our practices
3. They don't know the ppl there / They don't feel welcomed
4. Harmonica is something strange to them
5. Only ah-peh or uncle play harmonicas (feel oh-bit)

With these reasons, our group will not progress as what we always want to. Thus I'm trying to come up with some things the make the situations better. =D And I feel that we can start working on 'How to let ppl know us more'' & "How to make harmonica more 'cool' to ppl ''

Regarding this two thingy, I hope YOU who are reading this, will give us (or me) some suggestions. Or you want me to give an essay question? Hahaz. OK, here u go.

Yesterday we played HARMONICADENCE. so exciting. We still played the TIE A YELLOW RIBBON AROUND THE OLD OAK TREE... We had to search for it because it is some where in between our file. So many new songs are given to us that we don't even knoe where's the music score.

After that, still the same, went to teach the small student. Then have a discussion for 1/2 an hour, then HOME SWEET HOME!!!

But the main motive of this blog, email, MSN account, friendster are to MOTIVATE u to JOIN US. We welcome people who like harmonics, or to learn...
